In the meantime, I've decided to do a few "lifestyle" things, like baking! I tried out a recipe with my mom that sounded delicious from this lovely blog and it turned out wonderfully.

We did change up the recipe a bit, we added some baking soda for leavening to make drop cookies instead of rolling them out ( since I'm lazy and wanted my cookies ASAP ) but it still turned out very tasty!

I'm thinking of trying out some more recipes and making posts about them, since this was very fun and the results were delicious. ^_^ ♥
I'm going out of town for a bit to stay with my mom while she has the last of her cancer treatments. Actually, I left on Friday and just got back yesterday, but I'll be leaving again for about a week on Monday and possibly staying again after that, so unfortunately I won't be able to post much or keep up with my favorite blogs.

Sorry I forgot to say this earlier, see you all again soon!

God bless. ♥Amelia Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597086749161533215noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-206093971880439982.post-14644904342534337652013-01-15T14:39:00.006-08:002013-01-15T14:40:12.070-08:00Feeling like a princess when you don't feel well

Whether you have a cold or a chronic illness, sometimes it's hard to feel like a princess when you just don't feel like dressing up. Here are seven tips on feeling beautiful when you don't feel well!

1. Take care of yourself

Sometimes it's the littlest things that mean the most. Something as simple as brushing your hair or taking a shower can make you feel a million times better!

2. Skip the sweatpants and wear some cute pajamas

An elegant nightgown or some adorable pajamas can be super comfy and still make you feel cute.

3. Keep your mind occupied

Obviously lying in bed being bored isn't going to help you feel better. Something uncomplicated like reading a book or coloring will help you relax and keep you busy.

Here are some other ideas:

Playing videogames

Writing stories or poetry

Listening to music

Playing with a childhood toy

Painting your nails

Embroidery ( depending on how sick you are, if you feel up to it it can be very relaxing )

Blogging

Braid your hair

4. Drink tea

This is a great way to feel better and it always helps me feel more like a princess or a Lolita.

5. Pamper yourself

A hot bubble bath, great smelling lotions and face masks are very relaxing and are bound to lighten your mood.

6. Treat yourself to some treats

It depends on if your stomach can handle them or not of course, but a cupcake or some chocolates can always brighten your day.

If you're reading this and you don't feel well, then I hope these tips help even a little bit. Feel better soon! ♥

Before I make any future posts about a Princess Lifestyle, I wanted to take a moment to explain exactly what being a princess is to me more than I did in my first blog post.

First, I'll explain what I believe being a princess doesn't mean. It doesn't mean being a spoiled brat, it doesn't necessarily mean being a Disney princess, it doesn't mean thinking you're better than other people and it certainly doesn't mean being selfish.

Here's what it does mean:

Having self-respect

Having respect for others

Being polite

Being confident

Caring about others

Knowing who you are

Serving others

Being a princess, to me, is having a certain mental attitude. It isn't in the clothes you wear or whether or not you live in a castle. In fact, it's mostly in how you treat other people that makes you a princess. A princess is meant to serve her people through her actions and her words, not for everyone else to serve her. That's why you can choose to be a princess no matter how other people may treat you.

I think the book/movie "A Little Princess" pretty much sums up my view of what being a princess means, it's definitely worth checking out. ♥

Casual Lolita, especially for those used to OTT styles, can be a bit of a challenge to pull off correctly. But on the days when you can't fully dress up or simply don't feel like it, it can be a better option than wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

Hair

Skip the doll-like curls and wear your hair down ( nicely brushed, of course ) or up in a style that isn't too difficult but still cute, like pigtails. Avoid ponytails however, they tend to look too lazy to work with the elegance of Lolita.

Tops

One of the easiest ways to transform a normal Lolita outfit into a more casual one is to begin by switching out that fancy blouse with a cute but more comfortable cutsew. If it works with the outfit, you might even be able to wear a t-shirt, especially under a jumperskirt.

As long as it isn't revealing and looks good, it should work for casual Lolita.

Petticoats

Huge cupcake shaped skirts are a big part of Lolita fashion. However, as long as it has just enough poof not to look odd, just one less full petticoat should do and be more comfortable than a larger one or more than one petticoat. You need some poof, but you don't need a whole lot for the casual look.

Shoes

Any type of Lolita shoes could work depending on the style of your outfit, but if you want to wear a casual outfit in order to more easily go about your daily errands, Lolita shoes with little or no heels would definitely work best. If you do wear heels, make sure you wear gel inserts or it's bound to make your feet ache.

Accessories

Accessories are pretty important when it comes to Casual Lolita! Without them, your outfit just might be a little too casual. Hair accessories are especially important. What types you choose are less so, but if you wish to avoid the outfit becoming OTT, choose less accessories and ones that stand out less.

To sum it all up, your outfit should be comfortable while still remaining obviously Lolita. Don't be afraid to try different things and see what works best for you! ♥

I have some non-Lolita resolutions of course, more than I do Lolita ones, but here are my Lolita New Year's resolutions for 2013:

Wear Lolita everyday for a week

Grow my Lolita wardrobe

Become more active in the Lolita community

It's just three resolutions, but I have a feeling each one is going to be harder than it sounds. Especially the first one!

What are your Lolita resolutions for the coming year? Do you have any?

Happy New Years! ♥

I adore everything that was given to me, especially these last two items!

I'm a bit of a nuts when it comes to boots, I'll wear them with just about anything and I've gotten quite a few so far. I've been wanting this particular pair for awhile now so I was ecstatic when I unwrapped them!

As for the coat, I LOVE it! It's lined, the fur is detachable and it's pretty warm. At least, warm enough for my needs, I live in Texas so it hardly ever gets very cold or snows here.

I'm all set for winter now!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas this year, and got some good stuff. ;) ♥

One of the reasons Christmas is my favorite holiday is one of the same reasons I love Lolita so much: it's absolutely beautiful. Decorated Christmas trees, twinkling lights, beautifully wrapped presents, elegant red and gold colors, I could go on forever with the beautiful things Christmas brings. Not to mention the ones you can't see like generosity and kindness!

Christmas seems to melt frozen hearts in the midst of the winter chill and fill them with the same wonder and joy that a child has this time of year. Maybe I have a romantic view of Christmas, but I do believe in Christmas miracles, a few have even happened to me.

So, what are some beautiful things you love about Christmas? Ever experienced a Christmas miracle?
Merry Christmas everyone! ♥ Amelia Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597086749161533215noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-206093971880439982.post-90481829068799182022012-12-17T18:11:00.000-08:002012-12-17T18:11:44.202-08:00Nearly a PrincessWelcome to my new blog, "Nearly a Princess"!

I've been away from blogging and Lolita for months now, though it's certainly felt longer! A lot has changed, including myself, and that's one reason why I made a new blog instead of returning to A World in Lace.

I quit blogging to deal with more personal issues like my mother's cancer and I've grown a lot as a person and a bit as a Lolita since I've been gone. I'm happy to say that I think I'm ready to start blogging again! I probably won't get to post as often as I'd like, my life is still very hectic, but I'm glad to be back!

So, why have I decided to name my new blog "Nearly a Princess"? Personally, I believe that all girls/women have the potential to be a "Princess" and I believe that being a Princess is far more in your actions and how you treat other people than it will ever be in what you have or how you dress. Being a Princess means having respect for both yourself and other people, and to me becoming a Princess means becoming who I want to be inside.
But I'm not there yet, not quite the Princess I want to be. That's why this blog is called "Nearly a Princess", to remind myself of how much I've grown and how far I still have to go.

This blog will be both about being a Princess and about Lolita Fashion and I will try to post often and keep everyone updated. I hope you all enjoy this blog! ♥Amelia Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597086749161533215noreply@blogger.com3
